The name Kabani is derived from a river in Kerala which flows “in the other direction”, away from the sea. Kabani is working to develop travel and tourism in “the other direction”. They are concerned about the impacts of tourism on the local environment and people’s livelihoods. Their prime objectives are the sustainable development of local communities and the conservation of the natural resources that provide the foundation of community livelihoods.

After travelling up the breath taking Western Ghats from Kozhikode (Calicut) to the quiet village of Thrikkaipetta you will stay in a homestay at the heart of a community, proud of their land and culture. You will be warmly welcomed and, through village walks, visits to farms, plantations, Uravu –the bamboo craft producing centre and in your homestay, you will have a privileged experience of rural life in today’s Kerala. There is also an opportunity to visit other sites of interest with a guide from the village.
